One case of the measles in the city of Brisbane, Australia has health officials on edge and searching for more potential cases.

On Monday, Queensland Health confirmed that an infected child visited a number of establishments throughout Brisbane and Logan. The child also traveled on a Thai Airways flight that departed from Delhi and landed in Brisbane.

On Tuesday, the child checked into Logan Hospital emergency feeling ill.

Dr. Bhakti Vasant of Metro South Health says this means “large numbers of people have been exposed” to measles.

“It is very important to call the medical practice first to say you could have measles, so that staff can take precautions to avoid spreading the disease to others,” Dr. Vasant said.

“If people are adequately vaccinated with two recorded doses of Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) vaccine, they are very unlikely to get the disease.”

But was the child who came down with measles vaccinated? That’s left out of the story. Additionally, I’m not sure a single measles case is call for a global headline news story. Shouldn’t we be focused on Roseanne’s Twitter or something direr?

Decent journalism is absolutely dead. The original and riveting story of a lone measles case can be found on 9 News Australia for your full reading pleasure.
