It’s my understanding that only 9 states accept titers for animals as proof of immunity. This must change!

I can’t believe that titers are not accepted for Rabies, but no we are forced to continue poisoning our babies for no good reason.

Oh Carolyn…this is so sad. So unnecessary. What did your vet say? “Ah….opps. Sorry.”? I wonder if vets can be sued? are they covered by NVICP like pediatricians are? I’m sorry for the loss of your pet.

I owned an aged horse that came out of winter very lean. We had been feeding him senior feed as a nutritional supplement, and this was in addition to hay that he had available 24/7. In the spring, we had our annual vet check. Although the horse was frail, the veterinarian provided some additional feeding guidelines and gave him a clean bill of health and another two years to live. Annual rabies vaccination was due, but I expressed concern about giving it to him since he was so frail. She said, “Oh no, that doesn’t matter. He needs it.” Against my better judgement, I yielded to her recommendation. Twenty-one days later he was shows signs of instability and confusion. Two days later, he was in complete organ failure and had to be put down. Hmmmmm………he was supposed to have two years left in him, according to the veterinarian’s medical evaluation. Guess I should have stuck to my gut instinct and declined the shot.

Well, that is a step in the right direction. When it is ZERO vaccinations in one sitting, then we’ll be where we SHOULD BE.
