Mom Arrested After Putting Son Through 13 Surgeries

A Texas woman is now behind bars after putting her son through 13 major surgeries, following over 300 visits to the doctor. The child has been ruled healthy, something Kaylene Bowen has long maintained never to be true. Bowen claimed her 8-year-old son Christopher was dying from a rare genetic disorder and that he had lung cancer. Neither were proven to be the case, something Ryan Crawford, the boy’s father, long contended.

The boy ended up on full-time on oxygen and was often seen in a wheelchair. His feeding tube caused blood infections. A hospital in Dallas determined that Christopher was perfectly healthy which prompted CPS to move Christopher and two of his half-siblings from the care of Bowen. Bowen has been diagnosed with Munchausen syndrome, a disorder that causes people to embellish medical issues for the sake of garnering attention.

“It’s horrible for my son, or any kid because obviously, my son is not the only one that has had to go through this type of torture,” Crawford said, as reported by KTLA.  “The system has to be exposed — all the weaknesses that are in the system — because the kids don’t deserve that.”

Clearly, we are missing a number of pertinent details to the case. Who approved these major surgeries and procedures on a child that was perfectly healthy? It would seem to me that there would almost have to be a number of guilty parties, it isn’t as if the mom held the scalpel.
