As if statins weren’t useless enough, Big Pharma is now going to push out a vaccine option. Because of course they are.
Researchers are pushing the creation of a new vaccine that is aimed at targeting the statin prescription drug market, which is said to lower “bad” or LDL cholesterol. Statins are widely used and many studies believe they are more myth than useful. They are actually believed to be harmful (source). But the vaccine market is a predatory beast that looks for opportunity in any possible crevice.

“Statins are still the most commonly prescribed medication for cholesterol. Although they are effective in many people, [they] do have side effects and don’t work for everyone,” Dr. Alan Remaley, another study author and a senior investigator at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health, said in the release. “The results of our vaccine were very striking, and suggest it could be a powerful new treatment for high cholesterol.”
The caveat here, of course, is that it has only been tested on mice and macaques. However, this is the ripe time to start marketing a vaccine option. We have months and years of statin vaccine marketing to look forward to now. And then there is the issue of why the vaccine is being created: Because statin drugs have side effects. First, all vaccines have side effects as well, so I expect a wash here. Second, you aren’t solving the issue that statin drugs really are more myth for sake of profit. It turns out that a common sleight of hand in the medical literature is the popularization of claims around “relative risk reduction” which can make an effect appear meaningful, when the “absolute risk reduction” reveals its insignificance. In this way, 100 people are treated with statin medications to offer 1 person benefit, and the change from a 2% to a 1% heart attack rate is billed a 50% reduction rather than a 1% improvement, which is what it actually is.
One thing is for sure, the vaccine industry is everywhere you don’t want them to be.
