“The flu is a disease that can leave people sick for days, but can also be serious, and even deadly for vulnerable Pennsylvanians,” Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said, via Pa.gov. “Getting an annual flu vaccine remains the most effective way to protect your health and the health of those around you. In addition, it is essential to wash your hands frequently and protect yourself and loved ones from the flu.”
Most of the cases happened during the 2017-2018 flu season. That’s 50,000 more cases from last year.
But did none of these people get a flu shot? That’s hard to imagine. Did only a small percentage call upon the claimed protection of a flu shot? Again, difficult to imagine.
The flu shot was notably a failure this year, something that’s largely been attributed to the increase in flu cases. Some believe that many people relied too heavily on the flu shot for protection and didn’t take any other common-sense precautions. Others believe that the flu shot itself stimulates flu activity. Maybe it was just a year that a lot of people got sick and the media drove us into the ground with it? Often, cases aren’t even confirmed to be flu when they are reported.
Even the staunchly liberal Huffington Post has admitted that the flu shot not being up to snuff was a contributor.
