Throwback Thursday: Animal-Free Milk?

We all know what animal-based milk is. We simply call it MILK because it comes from a cow (or goat)! And we know plant-based milks like almond, cashew and oat milks. But now, new synthetic milks are being introduced. They use fancy words like “animal-free” and “precision-fermented” but it boils down to (no pun intended) the fact that these products are made in a bioreactor, not on a farm.

Here are some of the companies:
– Formo: a line of animal-free cheeses in Europe
– Perfect Day: cultivated ice cream
– Turtle Tree: animal-free lactoferrin base protein

It’s likely to be 25% more expensive, but you’ll buy it because cow milk is now a “cruelty product”, right? Oh, and climate change! Oh, and your milk might be infected with bird flu!

Maryam Henein is a Tenpenny Report guest author, and she’s been on the case of synthetic milk from the beginning. Read her article, Unlabeled and Unregulated: Got (GMO Synthetic) Milk? here.
