Brisbane School Shuts Down Due To ‘Extraordinary Flu Outbreak’

A school in Brisbane, Australia has shut its doors due to what it is terming, “an extraordinary flu outbreak.”

Middle Park State School made the unprecedented decision to close after 182 of 600 students came down with the flu. Additionally, 15 staff members also fell ill.

“The Health Department has stressed the importance of keeping students home who have any influenza-like symptoms and their absence should be continued until they have no influenza-like symptoms,” school principal Anne Kitchen said in a letter to parents, via 9news Australia.

The school is being hygienically cleaned while it is shut down as a preventative measure.

“The school is taking additional preventative and precautionary measures to assist in managing this situation and will conduct additional hygienic cleaning of school premises over the coming days,” she said.

Both A and B strains of the flu have been diagnosed. There is no word on the amount of persons given a flu shot prior to the outbreak. Officials are placing blame on kids going to school while sick.

Sick kids who don’t stay home? Not sure what type of kids these are, but none like I’ve ever met.
