Most people simply rely on a flu shot and continue eating poorly. Who can blame them? They’ve been told that’s the way to go.
A new Monash University Department of Immunology and Pathology study is offering more confirmation that the best defense against the flu is the holistic approach. The study revealed that the best medicine to prevent flu may well be a high fiber diet. The study showed that high fiber foods blunt harmful immune responses inside of the lungs. They also tend to boost antiviral immunity by activating T-cells.
“For an analogical viewpoint we know how this works,” author of the study Professor Benjamin Marsland explained to Xinhua.
“This diet changes the bacteria in the gut and the metabolites in the body, particularly short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs).”
A high fiber diet alters cell population in our bone marrow, which eventually circulates in the lungs and helps to stimulate immune cells that help fight the good fight.
The study also claims that a high fiber diet boosts flu shot efficiency. You sometimes feel these study results must be approved by our government before they can be posted. It seems to me that the study says that eating a high fiber diet helps fight off the flu. But it seems a caveat that high fiber diets are helpers to the flu shot had to be forced into it. The study didn’t seem to even test using a flu shot.
