An autistic 8-year-old from Arkansas has passed away from the flu. He was confirmed to have received a flu shot. Steve and Teresa Dannaway, parents of Tyler Dannaway, lamented over the tragedy saying their son was a “hugger.”
“If you met Tyler for five minutes, you didn’t forget Tyler,” Steve explained to wfla. “He loved giving huge bear hugs.”
Tyler’s sickness was fast and furious, according to his parents, who say the second grader was jovial on Sunday morning, a situation which changed drastically that night after Tyler fell extremely ill.
On Monday, Tyler reported a fever of 105. A trip to the doctor confirmed that Tyler had the flu.
On Tuesday morning, the situation further worsened.
“I heard something knocking around, so I came out of my office and found him in our kitchen,” Steve explained. As the Dannaways started to gather their things to take their disoriented son to the hospital, he collapsed and eventually his heart stopped. They noticed he wasn’t breathing and immediately called 911.
Doctors told the Dannaway’s they could not restart Tyler’s heart.
