Woman Says Doctors Left Camera In Her Body

Surgery is scary enough. But for one woman, her worst fears ended up coming true when the surgeons at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta left a camera inside of her body. This week, the woman filed a lawsuit in DeKalb County State Court. The suit, as you might expect, is based on medical negligence.

“Unbeknownst to Ms. Lockett at the time,” her lawyers claim, according to AJC.com, “this medical instrument was left inside Ms. Lockett even after she was discharged from Emory University Hospital on December 26, 2014.”

When did Lockett discover the camera? That didn’t happen until she was at a follow up exam that following June. Yes, doing the simple math here is relatively terrifying. It means that Lockett was walking around, sleeping, and who knows, maybe doing yoga, with a little medical camera inside of her body for close to seven months.

“As a result of Defendants’ negligence, Plaintiff Lacrystal Lockett suffered undue hardship through additional surgical procedures and has incurred medical expenses as well as significant pain and suffering, future pain and suffering, and lost wages,” the suit alleges.

The jury will be asked to decide what monetary amount Lockett is entitled to regarding the mistake. Given the clear-cut evidence, I’d expect it to be a significant amount.
